The Compensation Partner will lead a small team and provide expertise and strategic direction to drive best in class compensation programs for our Public Markets group within the Investment Management line of business.This position will be located in San Mateo with potential to work remote if based on the west coast. What are the ongoing responsibilities of this position?

  • Provide expert consultation, influence, analysis, and recommendations on compensation practices and pay for our investment teams within our Public Markets, Investment Management line of business.
  • Act as the primary compensation partner for the investment management business, serve as a strategic advisor on compensation practices and the pay landscape both internally and externally.
  • Lead a team as well as play a lead role in the design, delivery, and management of compensation programs across Investment Management business including constructing offers for senior hires, facilitation of the year-end pay process, and providing individual employee compensation recommendations (particularly for key leadership roles).
  • Recognize the implications of emerging industry trends, actively assesses the competitive landscape and regulatory/governmental fronts and articulates the impact they have to the business and on compensation practices.
  • Exhibit strong knowledge of various incentives schemes and industry best practices specific to the investment management and/or financial services industries. Understand and can advise on various pay components and practices such as performance fees, deferral schemes, vesting schedules, etc.
  • Understand where to source and extract optimal market data and pay practices specific to the Investment Management business.
  • Partner with HR, finance and legal counterparts and clients to drive compensation outcomes across the business.
  • Actively involved in year-end planning and drafting strategies for assigned business units or region/s for effective allocation of awards. What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful in this role?
    • Minimum 10 years of proven compensation experience.
    • Previous experience in Investment Management or Financial Services industries is required.
    • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with and influence people at all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to deal with ambiguity and develop a course of action.
    • Negotiates well in difficult situations and drives for results in a collaborative way.
    • Leader with player/coach mentality and leadership experience managing a team.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills:
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel for analysis
    • Advanced PowerPoint to communicate your ideas.Compensation Range: Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other perks. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The salary, benefits and variable rewards will reflect the seniority of the position and a competitive market rate.
