Job Description:


The Chaplain provides direct pastoral care to Hospice patients and families including spiritual assessment, crisis intervention, counseling and linkage with spiritual resources. Provides consultation and training on spiritual aspects of care as a member of the interdisciplinary hospice team. Serves as a liaison to community.



Master's With a Theological focus from accredited institution required. 

Other Ministerial education for ordination, licensure, or endorsement; Current letter of endorsement or support from a spiritual faith group RequiredOther 1 unit CPE from an approved ACPE RequiredOther Board Certified Eligible PreferredOther 4 units CPE from an approved ACPE center Preferred


3-5 years Experience in parish setting or equivalent Required3-5 years Minimum 3 years of full time work required Required0-2 years Active membership in a pastoral care professional organization. Required0-2 years Healthcare experience preferred. Preferred

Skills and Knowledge

Must have the ability to function independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team; ability to exercise independent, sound judgment in planning and providing patient care.Knowledge of state and federal home care regulatory guidelines preferred.Knowledge and understanding of human behavior and communication and the influence of cultural and spiritual values in providing spiritual care.Knowledge and skills necessary to provide spiritual care appropriate to the age-specific needs of neonates, children, adolescents, adults and the elderly.Knowledge of individual and family development over the lifespan.Ability to gather and assess data reflective of the patient and family’s developmental stage including end of life issues.Self-starter with a high degree of initiative, motivation, flexibility, energy and creativity.Ability to form harmonious working relationships with internal and external customers.Demonstrated leadership and negotiation skills and the ability to manage resources for patient care in a cost-effective manner.Excellent collaborative and problem solving skills with customers and management.Ability to exercise independent sound judgment in planning and providing patient care.Demonstrated ability in physical, psychosocial, and environmental assessment skills and in implementing plan of treatment.Excellent organizational skills.Access to a reliable motor vehicle to travel to patient sites.Must be able to handle sensitive issues, conflict with or among others, respectively direct and reinforce staff efforts; effectively plan and organize and prioritize work, and to effectively solve unique problems as they arise or identify when to consult supervisor.Must be able to deal with a challenging work environment from time demands and conflicting priorities.Maintain a positive and professional image and demonstrate self-directed learning to meet professional development and/or license requirements.At orientation and annually thereafter, must be able to meet core competencies for position and area of specialty, as appropriate.
