We provide a safe and nurturing environment where youth & teens can play and grow. Hundreds of campers attend our programs each year! Our camp programs are four-week sessions that include arts, Jewish culture, sports, science, and gardening. Our camp is accredited by the American Camp Association. The Garden & Science Specialist is an integral member of our camp staff and works to infuse garden and nature education, scientific exploration, discovery, and conservation into the Camp Keff programs. Under the direction of the Camp Manager, the Garden & Science Specialist will help to create community engagement, more environmentally sound practices at camp and a sense of exploration through Garden & Science programming. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Plan, supervise, and implement Garden & Science Programs activities for campers' grades K - 8.Maintain the garden space and the equipment in the garden.Organize and maintain all relevant supplies.Serve as a resource to other staff wishing to infuse gardening and science into programming.Work collaboratively with other staff members to plan unit and camp-wide programs and activities.Develop resources for camp staff to use during the summer and in the future to develop science and environmental education programming.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, run or crawl.Hours: 8:00 am - 5:30 pm, Monday - Friday, June 7 - August 13Mandatory staff training will be Monday - Friday, June 7 - 18, hours TBD. Some extended days may be required. Dates and schedules for extended work hours will be provided during staff training. Salary: $798 - $925 per week depending upon experience. Free Summer membership to the PJCC Athletic CenterQualificationsMinimum of 2 years of college from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Passionate about working with youth grades K - 8Experience working as a garden educator Experience in developing curricula about garden, nature or science-based programmingBasic First Aid, Adult and Child CPR with AED certified or ability to obtain upon employmentAbility to educate and work with diverse populationsExperience working in a camp settingKnowledge of Jewish culture a plus
