Description FINAL DATE FOR FILING: CONTINUOUS THE POSITION The County of San Mateo is looking for four (4) bilingual individuals to join the County Manager's Office of Community Affairs, as an Outreach Coordinator Intern - III. Working in conjunction with the Office of Community Affairs team and modeling the effective outreach efforts of the 2020 Census, the Community Outreach Coordinator will participate in civic engagement, community outreach and education, supporting outreach efforts for multiple County departments and assisting in administrative duties. The County is committed to reaching diverse communities, providing resources and services that residents may need in order to thrive. The ideal candidate will be bilingual with the ability to speak Spanish, Tagalog, Cantonese and/or Mandarin or a language present in San Mateo County (such as Tongan, Samoan etc.) and/or the ability to connect with vulnerable and underserved communities in San Mateo County. The Community Outreach Coordinator will work in partnership with other bilingual team members from the Office of Community Affairs and, will report to the Community Affairs Manager. The Community Outreach Coordinator will also work with community leaders, members, and organizations including educators, non-profit organizations, religious groups, business owners, and youth from diverse perspectives and backgrounds. The Outreach Coordinator will support efforts to ensure that San Mateo County is an equitable and inclusive county. The position will require the ability to set goals and take action in all aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Every member of San Mateo County deserves to thrive. The selected individual must be experienced working with people from all walks of life and must be able to conduct themselves appropriately. Examples Of Duties Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the following: * Maintain strong relationships with community leaders, residents, and business owners to engage the overall community in various initiatives set by the County of San Mateo. * Motivate residents (in language) to participate in county initiatives. * Coordinate and conduct micro-targeted outreach in hard-to-reach communities that traditionally have not be engaged with the county. * Collaborate with various County departments and act as a liaison between the unincorporated communities and public agencies to share information and collect public input. * Participate in field outreach and education efforts, such as door-to-door canvassing, program registration, flyer distribution, and other events. * Plan, coordinate, and staff a wide range of meetings, and events, such as Facebook Live and/or Zoom Webinars, which may include evenings and weekends. * Translate documents, presentations, and other content. * Update website, social media posts, mass emails, newsletters, and databases * Design social media posts and graphics (in language) to encourage community engagement/participation - using Canva, Adobe Suite, Instagram, TikTok * Perform administrative tasks such as invoicing, ordering office supplies, distributing supplies to partners, and other duties as assigned. * Provide assistance and staff support as needed * Position will be located in Redwood City, however will travel to various locations within the County to perform duties as described above. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: * Education:The successful completion of a Bachelor's degree, preferably in a related field * Language Skills:Oral and written fluency in English, Spanish, Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) or Tagalog is preferred * Experience: Any work or volunteer experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills. * Valid California Driver's License: Work requires the ability to provide grass-root canvassing and drive to/from San Mateo County cities using County vehicle. The ideal candidatewill possess: * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Professional experience with an emphasis on racial and social equity, and inclusion efforts * Ability to coordinate multiple projects, organize priorities, and manage a flexible schedule * Experience working with a diverse group of people (e.g. ethnic background, religion, nationality, education level, language, socio-economic status, etc.) * Confidence in public speaking (including in additional bilingual language if applicable) * Ability to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision and work collaboratively as a team member * Ability to offer creative and innovative solutions or new programs for consideration and the ability to think critically about issues and challenge old ideas * Experience creating visual and written materials or presentations; Some experience in web design and graphic design is preferred but not required - (ie. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite). * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to learn on-the-job * Proficient computer skills; e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Applications * Experience in social media content creation and driving engagement on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter * Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, as needed * Remote work, as needed Salary and Benefits: * This position is funded for 12-months and could be extended contingent on performance and program needs. * Depending on experience, the salary range is $25.21 - $33.62 per hour, including bilingual pay ($70 biweekly) . The position includes County benefits summarized at hr.smcgov.org/benefits. * The position includes a portable 401A retirement plan and is not eligible for a defined benefit County pension.
